Meg Dowling – Engineer, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

Meg Dowling is an Engineer in the Machinery, Electrical and Systems Engineering Department of ABS Corporate Technology. Meg joined ABS in 2019 as an Aspire Rotational Engineer, where she gained company-wide experiences with various projects and departments. She now works on subjects related to sustainable shipping initiatives and alternative energy options for maritime decarbonization. She is the main author of the ABS Sustainability Whitepapers “Biofuels as Marine Fuel” and “Hydrogen as Marine Fuel” published in 2021 to support ship owners and operators considering adopting alternative marine fuels for decarbonization. Meg received her BS in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2019. Her time in that program included five work terms that introduced broad aspects of the maritime industry, including maritime regulations, engineering design, ship refit and modifications, shipyard activities, vessel condition monitoring, and life extensions. She is an active member of SNAME within the Texas division, and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) USA division.
