NEXT GEN AMMONIA via TEAMS - 20 October 2026
NEXT GEN AMMONIA Workshop is being held via TEAMS on 20 October 2026. The theme is 'What are the Opportunities and Challenges for Ammonia as Marine Fuel?'
This unique workshop will be run over 4 hours from 13:00 to 17:00 (UK) with the main focus on Green Ammonia as a fuel of the near future for marine. Topics are relevant for operators, industry, technology developers, ports, harbours.
The programme is split into three sessions. Session 1: Hydrogen and green ammonia as marine fuels. Session 2: Ammonia safety and regulations in port and on vessels. Session 3: Scalability and commercial opportunities for green ammonia.
Workshop Lead - John Haynes, 'Since running the first edition of NEXT GEN Marine HYDROGEN in October 2021 the world has changed. Following 2022 political instability in Europe, energy security and the drive for alternative fuels is urgent. We now need to identify what, when and where these new fuels will be available for maritime. Ammonia as a marine fuel is now featuring in global reports relating to energy transition.'
For marine it is now essential to establish which fuels are viable and what will be required onshore. UK, EU and US Hydrogen Strategies aim to accelerate the development of clean Hydrogen. Significant government funding on both sides of the Atlantic will help to build Hydrogen infrastructure. Much of this will be around ports, leading to a supply of Hydrogen for use onshore and onboard vessels. Growth will be strongest in countries that are investing in alternative fuel infrastructure.
An international team of experts at NEXT GEN AMMONIA will consider the potential for Hydrogen and Ammonia. Managing safety, compliance and economics are priorities to enable adoption as technology reaches high TRLs. As commercial shipping has first end-users the Workshop examines opportunities and challenges.
The unique knowledge gained from NEXT GEN presentations and discussions will help to shape decisions that lead to improvements for in-service vessels and procurement of next generation systems that fit the evolving requirements of a changing world.
